ever.
this monkey tried to ride a 2-wheeler for the first time...there's no real rhyme or reason to this post. well, actually there is a reason.
i'm addicted to pinterest! full-fledged-need-a-twelve-step-program-addicted. love it!
no more tearing magazine pages out and cutting and gluing ideas into notebooks.
nope.
it's all right there. on my virtual pinboards.
the amount of inspiration is amazing!
i want to add some of my pics, but i have to blog them first. so this post is a combination of a where-the-hell-have-i-been-since-april-review and a way for me to pin some of my own work.
so, here's what i've been up to the last 3 months...
this one turned into a robot...
and tried to DO the robot...
went to heaven's corner animal sanctuary...
jaden's 9th birthday - an art party. i used to have guests scrapbook a photo of themselves with the birthday girl before they left. i wised up when that got old and made this canvas for them to sign.
fun with pipe cleaners...
my 1st ever attempt at a rainbow cake! {this is actually the 1st stacked cake i've ever made}
a little scrappiness...
playing with sunlight...
and lens flare...
some shots from around the house... our frame wall.
vintage bedsheet as our shower curtain...
chasing butterflies...
tending to the garden...
camping at KOA brookville...
playing with sparklers...
making washi tape reference cards.
jackson's father's day gift.
so, that's it in a {very large} nutshell.
LOVE the last photo! How did you cut out the words and hold them to get the orientation correct? I could try to figure it out but my pregnant brain is running slowly these days :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love long and random posts...they make me feel not so alone in my scattered thinking. Totally need to know more about that fantastic photo {We heart daddy}....amazing idea - totally on my list for next fathers day.
ReplyDeletethanks ladies!! the photo is surprisingly easy. you cut out the words normally (right-side up, etc.). the trick is in holding the signs. the girls stood in front of the sun and held the signs upside down & backwards...similar to how you'd feed your paper into the printer. (that part's easy enough to test.) have fun!! :0) Aja
ReplyDeleteI saw the We Love Daddy photo on Pinterest-- love it! I couldn't figure it out until I read your comment, so simple and genius at the same time. You should post a tutorial!
ReplyDeleteLovely blog! And the picture with the cut out words...simply awsome!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture! Usually I "get" stuff like this but if the words are cut out (I'm assuming they are, no?) how are the circles for some of the letters (a,p,d) on there?
ReplyDeleteSorry for not being able to figure this out, haha but I just love this picture too much to just let it go.. haha
lol...thanks! if you look reeaaaalll close, you can see the lines connecting the centers of those letters. they are cut like stencils, with little lines connecting the insides. luckily, they're small enough that they actually seem to disappear in the picture.
ReplyDeleteAnother one that ran across your blog thanks to Pinterest. And happened to pin some of your ideas... :D

ReplyDeleteWhat font is that for the We Heart Daddy? It's gorgeous! Thank you for sharing such an awesome idea!
ReplyDeleteBecky...the letters are not actually a font. I just drew them free-hand on scrap cardboard and cut them out. Thanks so much for the interest!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. Found you via pinterest too. I think you can also pin stuff from Flickr, if you upload there first. But random pictures are fun too!
ReplyDeleteI love love that last photo! I've tried doing it myself, but I just couldn't get it right! Would you happen to remember what time of day you did this??
ReplyDeletehello! I simply cut out the letters the way they would normally read. (as if I were just making a poster...but with an exacto instead of paint/markers)
ReplyDeleteThen, I went outside (around 11 or noon I think)and found a nice flat area where I could see the girls' shadows. Getting the letters to show correctly on the ground is simply a bit of trial and error, but it's very quick and easy to do. Instead of holding the poster upright (like you would do at say a welcome home party), you hold it above your head but the letters are upside down & backwards. The only thing you'll have to play around with is the way the sign is held...there's not a special set of directions for making the poster. Good luck! (and I'd love to see what you come up with...maybe you could link back to it in the comments.)
Hi! I tried this idea and for some reason I can NOT for the life of me get the WE heart right. Im not sure if Im not getting the lighting right. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is perfect for our father's day craft features @ theclassroomcreative. It's always nice to see new and refreshing ideas! Karen and Nicolette

My friend and I recreated your Father's Day idea. you mentioned if we do it to link up to your blog post here. So here it is: http://imotylek.blogspot.com/2012/06/happy-fathers-day.html
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the idea, it was fun and dads loved it!
Aja, the "We love daddy" shadow photo is so fabulous! Would you be open to having me include it, with a link back to your original post, on a post we're doing showing great Father's Day photo ideas? If so, please let me know at deb {at} photomambo dot com. It's really lovely!
ReplyDeleteLove the we <3 daddy idea! I made a version for my 2.5 year old twins to hold for their daddy's birthday. I didn't see how you kept the insides of the letters "intact" until after I finished the project. I ended up using very thin pieces of tape (used xacto knife to slice on cutting board) to keep them kinda webbed in :) I also had too many words (happy birthday daddy) and not enough patience from the kiddos so I just used chalk to write daddy on the concrete. All in all it worked out great, THANK YOU for the creative inspiration!
